In 2015, Julia collaborated with Michele Hester, SugarVeil founder, to develop this needlepoint mat for creating edible sugar lace. Originally designed to eliminate the painstaking piping of royal icing grids (which it does beautifully), it can also be used to emboss cookie dough and royal icing, two fun techniques that Julia popularized through her work. The second image shows one of Julia’s signature 3-D cookies sporting this needlepoint lace on its sides.
