Wow! I know, my 2022 cookie art competition was just put to bed, but we’re already on to the next one! Because my competition returns to an in-person format at That Takes the Cake (TTTC) Show at the end of March, planning your entries can’t start soon enough! Take a look at the rules in the first link below, and put a stake in the ground by registering now (second link below)! The theme is International Holidays, which provides a ton of creative freedom! More info about prizes will be coming in the new year, but I expect them to be as grand, or grander, than the $20,000 that was awarded in 2022!
P.S. Note that all rules and registration forms are once again housed on the TTTC site as they were in the year prior to the competition being online. However, I will continue to post competition updates and announcements in the competition news section of this blog, so be sure to follow it if you plan to compete in 2023!
KEY COMPETITION LINKS:
- 2023 Competition Rules (on the TTTC site)
- 2023 Competition Registration (again, on the TTTC site; just scroll down the page to the cookie competition area)

I want to learn to make the lion dancer, but am not able to travel. Will this class be taught on line?
Hi, Ruth, If you’re referring to the lion graphic in the post header image, that’s just an icon for my upcoming cookie art competition; it has nothing to do with any class that I am teaching. It’s supposed to signify “International Holidays”, which is the theme for this year’s competition. I hope I’ve clarified things a bit, but let me know if you have other questions.
For the tasting, on the recipe part, do we include an icing recipe as well, or just the cookie dough recipe?
Julie, there is no tasting component to my cookie art competition – there never has been one except once, as an exception, when the competition was filmed for Food Network in 2019. You must be confusing a rule for some other division of That Takes the Cake’s competitions with mine. All of the rules for my competition can be found here: https://thattakesthecake.org/competition/julia-m-ushers-cookie-art-competition/. Please give them a careful review to make sure you are prepping properly, and email me if you have more questions. Also, please check that you have actually registered for my competition and not one of the other divisions at TTTC that might have a tasting requirement. Thanks, and best of luck with your preparations. We look forward to seeing your cookie art entry!
