This sugar structure may look like a modern art piece, but Julia created it simply to demonstrate the wide array of shapes that can be made with cast sugar – a very simple mixture of granulated sugar, water, and (optional) food coloring. Julia uses it to make everything from urns and perfume bottle lookalikes to classic panorama Easter eggs! She even turns the leftover mixture into darling molded and cutout sugar cubes. You’ll see all of these projects elsewhere in this gallery, but, before you check them out, get groomed in the basics of cast sugar with this how-to video from Julia.
