Julia knows no higher honor than being recognized by her long-time mentor, the venerable, late Kerry Vincent of Food Network fame. Kerry organized and hosted the Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show (OSSAS), the largest juried cake competition in the United States, for 25 years prior to her retirement in 2018. After reviewing and endorsing Julia’s book Ultimate Cookies in 2011, Kerry immediately saw Julia’s promise as a sugar artist and invited her to do a mainstage demo at the show in 2013. Over the year that followed, Kerry witnessed firsthand Julia’s talent and commitment to her cookie craft and the cookie community. In 2014, much to Julia’s surprise, Kerry decided to bestow her ultimate honor: The OSSAS Medal of Honor for exceptional sugar craft and dedication to furthering instruction and artistry in the field. Julia cherishes this medal – a highlight among the many fond memories she shared with Kerry over the years.
