April 2024 was a good month for Julia! Just two weeks after winning the Global Sugar Hero Award at the Australian Cake Artists & Decorators Association (ACADA) Cake Oscar Awards, Julia won this pinnacle of all North American sugar arts awards on April 27. Given to a special person who “demonstrates outstanding skill and contribution to the industry”, the Industry Icon Award is truly the ultimate honor conferred by the American Cake Awards (ACA) each year. Needless to say, Julia was beyond thrilled to receive it – she was also tongue-tied for perhaps the first time in her life! Julia is not a woman of few words, but she struggled on the awards stage through tears of disbelief to find adequate words to convey her gratitude.
