Another outtake from Julia’s book Ultimate Cookies, this version of her cookie puzzle project was designed with Christmas in mind. To ensure tight-fitting pieces, Julia cut one big cookie into the desired number of pieces while the cookie was still hot from the oven, as opposed to doing any cutting prior to baking. If the cookies are cut first and baked separately, some filing of the edges will likely be needed after the cookies are baked and cool. (For this task, Julia most often uses a Microplane tool for long edges and a dremel tool for tighter areas or along curves.) Of course, a cookie puzzle can also make a great holiday hostess gift or party favor. Simply place a photo of the completed puzzle on top of a colorful box and then tie it up with festive ribbon, as Julia did here.
