Both party food and party game, this cookie puzzle, an outtake from Julia’s book Ultimate Cookies, never fails to entertain. For the best-fitting pieces, Julia cut one big cookie into several pieces while the cookie was still hot from the oven, as opposed to doing any cutting prior to baking. However, you could also cut the cookies first and then bake them close to one another in the completed-puzzle arrangement to prevent too much spreading. Once decorated, the cookies can be packaged in bags or boxes, though if the cookies have any relief, as these do here, boxes are the safest way to prevent any damage. Julia usually gives one box to each guest, with a photocopy of the assembled puzzle attached. Then, as an icebreaker, she challenges each partygoer to solve the puzzle before all the rest. The prize can be anything, but usually more cookies is best!
