Overview: After appearances at The Bake Fest every year since its inception in 2021, Julia happily returns to teach at the 2025 fall edition, which runs from October 4 through October 5, 2025! Not familiar with The Bake Fest? It’s the world’s largest virtual, multidisciplinary baking and decorating event – and the only place online where you can learn all about cookies, cakes, cupcakes, pies, breads, and . . . even the business of baking! Attending just one Bake Fest (Julia’s now on number seven!) is sure to level up your baking-decorating game!
In Julia’s two-hour, hands-on class on October 5, she’ll show how to make several uniquely beautiful royal icing transfers designed to elevate your cookie style to stratospheric levels! In addition to being stunning, these transfers are all easy, make-ahead elements that will streamline your decorating time, especially during busy holiday seasons. They also have the advantage of affording lots of design flexibility, as Julia will demo in class. From simple piped, stamped, and stenciled transfers to more complex multicolor embossed, contoured, and assembled ones, every conceivable transfer type will be covered! You’re welcome to follow along or just watch Julia as she works her magic.
Note: The cookies shown here will not be made in their entirety; however, they all contain transfers representative of the types that Julia will teach in this class. Once you’ve got the critical transfer techniques under your belt, Julia is sure you’ll be well-equipped to adapt and apply them to cookies of any design.
Skill Level: Suitable for everyone, though some understanding of royal icing will be helpful.
Prerequisites: No cookie decorating or royal icing experience is necessary.
What You’ll Learn (~9 Techniques):
- Definition and uses of royal icing transfers
- Simple flat piped transfers (including pros and cons of various piping substrates, i.e., parchment paper, acetate, and silicone)
- Airbrushing/stenciling and rubber-stamping on flat piped transfers
- One- and two-tone embossed transfers
- Stenciled transfers
- Contoured transfers (including piped, embossed, and stenciled variations)
- Assembled transfers (including one assembled flower; possibly two, as time permits)
- Cookie decoration with transfers (including tips for added dimension and layering of transfers)
Schedule and Other Notes: Even though a class time is listed here, Julia’s exact class time on October 5 is yet to be determined. Please check back here often, as it will be announced soon. Remember, students must supply their own tools and icing if they want to follow along with Julia. As always, Julia will provide detailed supply and prep lists about one month prior to the event. You’ll find them on The Bake Fest’s website when they become available, so stay tuned!
