Overview: After appearances at The Bake Fest every year since its inception in 2021, Julia happily returns to teach cookie decorating at the special holiday edition on October 5 and 6, 2024! Not familiar with The Bake Fest? It’s the world’s largest virtual, multidisciplinary baking and decorating event – and the only place online where you can learn all about cookies, cakes, cupcakes, pies, breads, and . . . even the business of baking! Attending just one Bake Fest (Julia’s now on number six!) is sure to level up your baking-decorating game!
In Julia’s two-part, hands-on class, she will show how to elevate your fall and winter holiday tables with an unexpected edible that doubles as a festive napkin ring! Over the two class days, you’ll make one or more napkin ring cookies, and gain experience with a host of innovative cookie decorating techniques that work beautifully on just about any cookie project. While Julia will demonstrate the harvest-themed napkin ring shown here (more photos below), she will also suggest other seasonal styling variations along the way. On the first class day, cookies will be shaped and baked, and long lead-time items that require icing drying time will be made. If you intend to follow along with Julia in class, you shouldn’t miss this first part. On the second day, the elements made on day one will be further embellished and then assembled into these spectacular, tasty, and functional treats!
Skill Level: All! While this project might look complicated, Julia will tailor her pace and instruction so that even beginning and intermediate decorators can follow along.
Prerequisites: Some experience with royal icing is recommended, but not necessary.
What You’ll Learn (~12 Techniques):
- Embossed cookies
- Contoured cookies
- Contoured and airbrushed royal icing transfers (for leaves)
- Sculpted royal icing putty (for berries)
- Piped dimensional royal icing (for pine cones)
- Stamped fondant appliqués
- Sponging

Schedule and Other Notes: Julia’s session will span both October 5 and 6. Her exact class times are yet to be determined, but check back here often, as they will be announced soon. Remember, students must supply their own tools and cookies if they want to follow along with Julia. As always, Julia will provide detailed supply and prep lists about one month prior to the event. You’ll find them on The Bake Fest’s website when they become available, so stay tuned!
