Julia continues her latest botanical series with these cookies inspired by the very beauties climbing her own garden arbor. (Or we should say “arbors”; she grows many varieties of clematis!) This edible variety is made entirely of royal icing transfers, some contoured and others stenciled, like the delicate trellis in the background. After drying, each piece is individually airbrushed and then assembled together on the cookie to create this masterpiece. A labor of love, no doubt, but definitely a project anyone can do with Julia’s detailed step-by-step instructions.

This year, Julia M. Usher’s Cookie Art Competition™ returns online, where Julia plans to keep it in perpetuity! The online format allows anyone anywhere in the world to enter, and Julia thinks there’s nothing better than inclusivity! The competition rules and theme (which takes a cue from Taylor Swift!) posted to Julia’s site Cookie Connection, the competition’s home base, on March 30, along with a registration link and final prize tally! While learning and growth are the true objectives of Julia’s competition, the prizes are, without a doubt, the best in the business. This year, they’ve topped out at just over $25,500 USD, which is an all-time record for the competition! Julia couldn’t be more thrilled, or more thankful for her amazing team of sponsors.

As always, Julia’s 2024 class schedule is jam-packed and super exciting! Her in-person classes will take her as far afield as Australia, but she will also be placing more emphasis on the home front with return appearances at online events, such as The Bake Fest and Cookie-A-Thon, and an expanded schedule of Zoom classes.
